Tomašević families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Sinj. According to some sources from Peljesac Peninsula, less frequently Serbs, and Montenegrins. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj and Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 1800 people with faimily name Tomašević live in Croatia today, in 780 households. There were 1900 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 71 cities and 166 other places, mostly in Zagreb (275), Sinj (115), Split (70), Vinkovci (70), and in Slavonski Brod (50).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
