Tišma families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Knin area , whereas often Croats (from Djakovo area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Knin area and in Obrovac area. In Ivoševci in Knin area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Tišma.
Prevalence
About 320 people with faimily name Tišma live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 630 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 33 other places, mostly in Ivosevci in Knin area (50), Zagreb (50), Donji Lapac in Obrovac area (25), Zadar (20), and in Visuc in Obrovac area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
