Tesla families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Duga Resa area , whereas often Croats (from Karlovac ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Karlovac and Zagreb. In Klipino Brdo in Karlovac every fifth inhabitant had the family name Tesla.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Tesla live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 300 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 31 other places, mostly in Karlovac (35), Zagreb (25), Varazdin (<10), Brdo Utinjsko in Duga Resa area (<10), and in Trgovi in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
