Svilar families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Obrovac area , whereas often Croats (from Nasice ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Obrovac area and in Vinkovci. In Pećane in Obrovac area every third inhabitant had the family name Svilar.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Svilar live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 350 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 14 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Vinkovci (10), Slavonski Brod (<10), Karlovac (<10), and in Vukovar (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
