Sušić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Rab. According to some sources they are from Herzegovina, rarely Serbs, and Bosniaks (Cazinska Krajina, Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and on the Island of Rab. In Čvaljina in East Herzegovina every second inhabitant had the family name Sušić.
Prevalence
About 670 people with faimily name Sušić live in Croatia today, in 290 households. There were 500 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 54 cities and 59 other places, mostly in Zagreb (155), Rijeka (55), Dubrovnik (35), Banjol on the Island of Rab (35), and in Otocac (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1571 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
