In Croatia, Starek families are generally Croats (from Lepoglava area ), very rarely Czechs (from Daruvar ), and barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Varazdin and in Lepoglava area.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Starek live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Bednja in Lepoglava area (10), Bjelovar (<10), Zagreb (<10), Sracinec in Varazdin area (<10), and in Daruvar (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
