Stanišić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Korcula , less frequently Serbs and Montenegrins. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Zadar. In Pupnat on the Island of Korcula every ninth inhabitant had the family name Stanišić.
Prevalence
About 780 people with faimily name Stanišić live in Croatia today, in 360 households. There were 700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 47 cities and 78 other places, mostly in Zagreb (105), Petrcane (70), Rijeka (70), Karlovac (55), and in Pupnat on the Island of Korcula (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
