Stambolija families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Hrvatska Kostajnica area , whereas often Croats (also from Hrvatska Kostajnica area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Hrvatska Kostajnica area and in Zagreb. In places Sočanica and Kosna in Hrvatska Kostajnica area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Stambolija.
Prevalence
About 200 people with faimily name Stambolija live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 370 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 22 cities and 39 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Podgorac in Nasice area (10), Nova Gradiska (10), and in Javornik (<10) and Trgovi (<10) in Hrvatska Kostajnica area.
