In Croatia, Spanjol families are Croats (from the Island of Losinj ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Losinj and in Zagreb.
Prevalence
Only a few people with faimily name Spanjol live in Croatia today, in four households only. They are located in only threee naselja i to in Veli Losinj (<5) and Mali Losinj (<5) on the Island of Losinj, and in Kasina (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1926 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
