Soldat families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Mursko Sredisce , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cakovec and in Bosanian Posavina (Bosanski Novi area). In Trgovište in Bosanian Posavina every seventh inhabitant had the family name Soldat.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Soldat live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 24 other places, mostly in Cakovec (15), Moravice (10), Rijeka (10), Zagreb (<10), and in Velika Gorica (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1642 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
