Smilović families are often Croats and they are mostly from Pazin area , less frequently Italians (from Buje ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Labin and in Pazin area. In Tupljak in Pazin area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Smilović.
Prevalence
About 250 people with faimily name Smilović live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 240 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 25 other places, mostly in Split (35), Katuni in Omis area (25), Tupljak in Pazin area (25), Rijeka (20), and in Momjan (20).
