In Croatia, Sloboda families are mainly Croats (from Serbia ), less frequently Hungarians (from Beli Manastir area ), and very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Srijem, Vojvodina and in Osijek. In Novi Bezdan in Beli Manastir area every fiftieth inhabitant had the family name Sloboda.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Sloboda live in Croatia today, in 16 households. There were 70 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 50 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and threee other places, mostly in Rijeka (<10), Osijek (<10), Beli Manastir (<5), Pozega (<5), and in Novi Bezdan in Beli Manastir area (<5).

Family name Sloboda is present in 39 countries worldwide. "Szloboda " is used by some 800 people in Hungary , small number in the United States , and small number of people in Austria.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
