In Croatia, Skala families are almost entirely Croats (from Virovitica ), very rarely Czechs (from Daruvar ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Backa, Vojvodina. In Resnik in Pleternica every thirtieth inhabitant had the family name Skala.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Skala live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 8 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Slavonski Brod (<10), Pula (<5), Daruvar (<5), and in Osijek (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
