Silaj families are Croats and they are mostly from Glina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Glina and Cakovec. In places Donja Trstenica and Gornje Taborište in Glina every ninth inhabitant had the family name Silaj.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Silaj live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 170 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 9 cities and 27 other places, mostly in Petrinja (20), Sisak (15), Cakovec (15), Mala Gorica (10), and in Petrovec in Petrinja area (<10).
