In Croatia, Shala families are mainly Albanians (from the Island of Losinj ), less frequently Croats (from Donji Miholjac ), and very rarely Bosniaks (from the Island of Losinj ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Kosovo and in Janjevo, Kosovo.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Shala live in Croatia today, in 20 households. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 16 cities and four other places, mostly in Rijeka (10), Mali Losinj on the Island of Losinj (<10), Delnice (<10), Zagreb (<10), and in Stobrec (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
