Sečen families are Croats and they are mostly from Ozalj area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Samobor and Zagreb. In Griče in Ozalj area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Sečen.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Sečen live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 20 other places, mostly in Zagreb (40), Jastrebarsko (15), Rijeka (10), Karlovac (10), and in Samobor (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
