Sekula families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Zadar area (Bibinje). According to some sources they are from Lika, and are rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Otocac.
Prevalence
About 270 people with faimily name Sekula live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 250 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 17 other places, mostly in Zagreb (65), Bibinje in Zadar area (65), Split (35), Otocac (30), and in Dubrovnik (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
