Sedlar families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Zlatar area. According to some sources they are from Poland and Czechia, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Varazdin. In Ramljane in Sinj area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Sedlar.

About 850 people with faimily name Sedlar live in Croatia today, in 360 households. There were 820 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 41 cities and 92 other places, mostly in Zagreb (160), Split (80), Vukanci in Zlatar area (65), Jarmina in Vinkovci area (65), and in Varazdin (55).
Outside Croatia
At least three families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: the United States (1), Canada (1), and to Germany (1). Family name Sedlar (including: Sedlár , Szedlar ) is present in 10 countries on two continents. The family name "Sedlar " is used by some 500 people in the United States. "Szedlar " is used by some 100 people in Hungary , small number in the United States , and small number of people in Slovakia.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
