Savić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Knin , whereas often Croats (from Benkovac area ), very rarely Montenegrins. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Osijek. In Banjevci in Benkovac area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Savić.
Prevalence
About 2100 people with faimily name Savić live in Croatia today, in 980 households. There were 1600 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 84 cities and 231 other places, mostly in Zagreb (385), Rijeka (140), Split (80), Pula (80), and in Banjevci in Benkovac area (80).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1721 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
