In Croatia, Samarđić families are almost entirely Croats (from Valpovo ), very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Vukovar area and in Pleternica. In Kuzmica in Pleternica every twentieth inhabitant had the family name Samarđić.
Prevalence
About 30 people with faimily name Samarđić live in Croatia today, in 16 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 7 other places, mostly in Djeletovci in Vinkovci area (<10), Vukovar (<10), Pozega (<10), Valpovo (<10), and in Vinez (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
