In Croatia, Salak families are predominantly Croats (from Vinkovci area ), rarely Rusyns (from Vukovar area ), and barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pozega and Vukovar.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Salak live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are only located in in 6 Croatian cities and 7 other places, mostly in Nustar in Vinkovci area (<10), Pozega (<10), Dugo Selo (<10), Ceric in Vinkovci area (<10), and in Petrovci in Vukovar area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
