In Croatia, Sakar families are mainly Croats (from Daruvar ), less frequently Czechs (also from Daruvar ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Garesnica and Daruvar. In Uljanik in Garesnica every thirtieth inhabitant had the family name Sakar.
Prevalence
About 30 people with faimily name Sakar live in Croatia today, in 12 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in five Croatian cities only: in Zagreb (10), Daruvar (<10), Poljana (<10), Uljanik (<5), and in Bjelovar (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
