Ruzic families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Novigrada area , rarely Serbs from Vukovara. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Zagreb. In Stari Laz in Delnice area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Ružić.
Prevalence
About 2700 people with faimily name Ružić live in Croatia today, in 1200 households. There were 2700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 82 cities and 260 other places, mostly in Zagreb (380), Rijeka (220), Split (155), Hreljin (105), and in Podstrana in Solin area (80).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
