Roce families are Croats and they are mostly from Labin area and according to some sources from village Gorica (Sutivanac nad Rasom). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and in Labin area. In Gorica in Labin area every second inhabitant had the family name Roce.
Prevalence
About 170 people with faimily name Roce live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 130 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in threee Croatian counties, in 7 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Gorica in Labin area (65), Pula (40), Sutivanac in Labin area (15), and in Balici I (15) and Zminj (<10) in Pazin area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
