Ribić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Virovitica area , barely Bosniaks (iz Tuzla Region, Bosnia) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Varazdin. In Grgići in Middle Bosnia every second inhabitant had the family name Ribić.
Prevalence
About 1300 people with faimily name Ribić live in Croatia today, in 550 households. There were 1300 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 63 cities and 168 other places, mostly in Zagreb (190), Osijek (50), Ribic Breg (45), Karlovac (45), and in Virovitica (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
