Rapaić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Otocac area , whereas often Croats (also from Otocac area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Otocac area and in Zagreb. In Krbavica in Otocac area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Rapaić.

About 250 people with faimily name Rapaić live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 540 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved.
They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 21 cities and 27 other places, mostly in Zagreb (80), Jezerce in Otocac area (35), Rijeka (25), Korenica in Otocac area (20), and in Cakovec (10).

At least four families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: the United States (2), Australia (1), and to New Zealand (1).
