Rakela families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Brac. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and on the Island of Brac.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Rakela live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are only located in in 9 Croatian cities and 7 other places, mostly in Split (55), in Lozisca (40) and Sutivan (20) on the Island of Brac, Solin (<10), and in Dugi Rat in Omis area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1925 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
