Rakas families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Glina , often Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Glina and in Hrvatska Kostajnica area. In Zut in Hrvatska Kostajnica area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Rakas.
Prevalence
About 200 people with faimily name Rakas live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 180 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 31 other places, mostly in Zagreb (30), Jagodnjak in Beli Manastir area (20), Pula (15), Petrinja (10), and in Mali Miletinac in Daruvar area (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1925 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
