Puharić families are Croats and they are mostly from Makarska. According to some sources they are from Hungary. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Makarska and Rijeka.

About 360 people with faimily name Puharić live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 340 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 0 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 15 other places, mostly in Makarska (235), Zagreb (25), Rijeka (20), Matulji in Opatija area (15), and in Jaksic in Pozega area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
