In Croatia, Prnić families are generally Croats (from Vrgorac ), rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Vrgorac and Split. In Kljenak in Vrgorac every tenth inhabitant had the family name Prnić.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Prnić live in Croatia today, in 16 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 9 cities and four other places, mostly in Zagreb (10), Potomje on the Peljesac peninsula (<10), Split (<10), Kljenak (<5), and in Pula (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
