In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Sveti Ivan Zelina area. In places Baničevec and Hruškovec in Sveti Ivan Zelina area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Prelec.

They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 20 cities and 40 other places, mostly in Sesvete (90), Zagreb (80), Strmec in Samobor area (50), Rakovec in Sveti Ivan Zelina area (50), and in Rijeka (30).
