Poturica families are Croats and they are mostly from Zapresic area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Karlovac and in Zapresic area. In Skupica in Duga Resa area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Poturica.
Prevalence
About 300 people with faimily name Poturica live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 320 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 38 other places, mostly in Jakovlje in Zapresic area (60), Karlovac (50), Skupica in Duga Resa area (30), Zagreb (25), and in Sela (10).
Outside Croatia
At least three families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to the United States (2) and Germany (1). Family name Poturica is present in 9 countries on four continents. The family name "Poturica " is used by some 70 people in the United States and small number in Canada.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
