Popadić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Vukovar area , whereas often Croats (from Split ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Nasice. In Smude in Slatina area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Popadić.
Prevalence
About 260 people with faimily name Popadić live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 32 cities and 26 other places, mostly in Borovo in Vukovar area (30), Osijek (30), Zagreb (20), Split (15), and in Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
