Polimac families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Petrinja , whereas often Croats (from Osijek ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Petrinja and in Hrvatska Kostajnica area. In Švrakarica in Hrvatska Kostajnica area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Polimac.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Polimac live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 280 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 27 other places, mostly in Zagreb (15), Petrinja (10), Dalj in Vinkovci area (10), Brsadin in Vukovar area (10), and in Jabukovac (10).

Family name Polimac is present in 17 countries on four continents. The family name "Polimac " is used by some 70 people in Japan , small number in Canada , and small number of people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
