Polgar families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Cakovec area , less frequently Hungarians (from Osijek ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Cakovec.
Prevalence
About 120 people with faimily name Polgar live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 16 other places, mostly in Belica in Cakovec area (25), Zagreb (10), Osijek (<10), Slavonski Brod (<10), and in Djakovo (<10).

Family name Polgar is present in 39 countries worldwide. The family name "Polgar " is used by some 7000 people in Hungary , about 1000 in the United States , and some 1000 people in Romania.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
