Poje families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Cabar , rarely Slovenes. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Cabar. In Gornji Žagari in Cabar every eighth inhabitant had the family name Poje.
Prevalence
About 410 people with faimily name Poje live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 430 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 32 cities and 47 other places, mostly in Zagreb (90), Slavonski Brod (25), Osijek (20), Vezisce in Ivanic-Grad area (20), and in Sesvete (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
