In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Novi Marof area. In Dropkovec in Novi Marof area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Plavec.

About 220 people with faimily name Plavec live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 230 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 24 other places, mostly in Zagreb (70), Dropkovec in Novi Marof area (20), Varazdin (20), Krizevci (15), and in Sisak (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
