Pilat families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Pazin , less frequently Czechs (from Lipik ) and Hungarians (from Osijek area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and Pazin. In Lovrin in Pazin every seventh inhabitant had the family name Pilat.
Prevalence
About 310 people with faimily name Pilat live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 240 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 34 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Pazin (35), Karojba in Pazin area (25), Daruvar (15), and in Brkac in Buzet area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
