Pezelj families are Croats and they are mostly from Gospic. According to some sources they are from Donji Dolac near Omis. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Gospic and Zagreb. In places Smiljansko Polje and Smiljan in Gospic every ninth inhabitant had the family name Pezelj.
Prevalence
About 440 people with faimily name Pezelj live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 420 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 31 cities and 39 other places, mostly in Gospic (85), Zagreb (55), Split (50), Rijeka (30), and in Donji Dolac (25).
