Peran families are Croats and they are mostly from Sibenik , according to some sources from Grebastica near Sibenik, but other souces say the name originates from Prozor area (Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and Split. In Grebaštica in Sibenik every fourth inhabitant had the family name Peran.
Prevalence
About 600 people with faimily name Peran live in Croatia today, in 230 households. There were 310 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 29 cities and 26 other places, mostly in Sibenik (205), Grebastica (95), Zagreb (45), Kastel Stari (45), and in Barbat na Rabu on the Island of Rab (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
