Pelko families are often Croats and they are mostly from Oroslavje area , less frequently Bosniaks (from east Herzegovina). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in East Herzegovina (Ljubinje area). In Bančići in East Herzegovina every second inhabitant had the family name Pelko.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Pelko live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 70 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 14 other places, mostly in Zagreb (60), Zlatar-Bistrica in Oroslavje area (10), Dubrovnik (<10), Sirinec in Ivanic-Grad area (<10), and in Ervenik Zlatarski (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
