Pekić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Pozega area. According to some sources they are from Gradac near Ploce, rarely Serbs, and Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Karlovac and Zadar. In Međeđak Utinjski in Duga Resa area every third inhabitant had the family name Pekić.
Prevalence
About 500 people with faimily name Pekić live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 450 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 42 cities and 49 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Medjedjak Utinjski in Duga Resa area (35), Karlovac (30), Solin (25), and in Osijek (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
