Pejić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Bosanske krajine. According to some sources they are from Herzegovina (Sovici), and rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Tuzla Region, Bosnia (Tuzla area) and in Bosnian Krajina (Teslic area). In Smionica in Middle Bosnia every third inhabitant had the family name Pejić.
Prevalence
About 2900 people with faimily name Pejić live in Croatia today, in 1200 households. There were 290 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 90 cities and 332 other places, mostly in Zagreb (555), Zupanja (120), Osijek (95), Split (85), and in Rijeka (75).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
