Papak families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Rama (north Herzegovina) (Bosnia), barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and in Rama, Bosnia (Prozor area). In Skrobućani in Rama (Bosnia) nearly every inhabitant had the family name Papak.
Prevalence
About 540 people with faimily name Papak live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 180 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 33 other places, mostly in Ilok (100), Sibenik (90), Zagreb (55), Mravnica (45), and in Split (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
