Padovan families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Korcula. According to some sources they are from the Island of Rab. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Korcula and in Split. In places Vela Luka and Blato on the Island of Korcula every thirtieth inhabitant had the family name Padovan.
Prevalence
About 400 people with faimily name Padovan live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 370 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Vela Luka (160) and Blato (50) on the Island of Korcula, Zagreb (45), Zadar (25), and in Split (25).
Outside Croatia
At least 14 families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Australia (10), the United States (3), and to Canada (1). Family name Padovan is present in 36 countries worldwide. "Padowan " is used by few people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
