Oreški families are Croats and they are mostly from Ivanec area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Varazdin and Cakovec. In Vukovoj in Ivanec area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Oreški.
Prevalence
About 760 people with faimily name Oreški live in Croatia today, in 310 households. There were 600 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 32 cities and 80 other places, mostly in Zagreb (100), Varazdin (80), Klenovnik in Ivanec area (40), Breznica Nasicka in Nasice area (40), and in Nedelisce in Cakovec area (35).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
