Okić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from east Herzegovina , often Bosniaks (from Bosnian Posavina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Velika Kladusa area) and in East Herzegovina (Gacko area). In Ponikve in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every seventh inhabitant had the family name Okić.
Prevalence
About 170 people with faimily name Okić live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than tripled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 22 cities and 27 other places, mostly in Zagreb (35), Rijeka (25), Pula (15), Struga in Ludbreg area (15), and in Mracelj in Duga Resa area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
