In Croatia, Ognjanović families are mainly Croats (from Zupanja ), rarely Serbs, and very rarely Slovenes (from Beli Manastir ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zupanja and Bjelovar.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Ognjanović live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Zupanja (15), Bjelovar (<10), Borova in Virovitica area (<10), Varazdin (<5), and in Suhopolje in Virovitica area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
