Novković families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Duga Resa area , whereas often Croats (from Gospic ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Gospic and Karlovac. In Pavlovac Vrebački in Gospic every third inhabitant had the family name Novković.
Prevalence
About 450 people with faimily name Novković live in Croatia today, in 220 households. There were 590 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 43 cities and 58 other places, mostly in Zagreb (90), Karlovac (40), Split (25), Dunjak in Duga Resa area (25), and in Miocinovici (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
