Novaković families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , often Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Split. In places Voljice and Vaganjac in Middle Bosnia every sixth inhabitant had the family name Novaković.
Prevalence
About 3000 people with faimily name Novaković live in Croatia today, in 1400 households. There were 3600 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 96 cities and 323 other places, mostly in Zagreb (510), Split (140), Rijeka (115), Osijek (110), and in Karlovac (70).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1705 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
